I tried to post these more than a week ago and I’m just now seeing that they never uploaded
San Sebastián Church lies at the top of a hill, in a neighborhood I had not visited before. All of the surrounding houses have murals painted on their façades, which is something we should start doing in the US. This photo was taken during the more contemplative “Avant Garde and Microtonal Marimba” performance. Later performances were more energetic, prompting the crowd to get up and dance. At some point in it’s history, San Sebastián Church was allowed to fall to ruin and was later rebuilt. This photo was presumably taken in the interim. I don’t know anything more about when or why this happened, but I will try to find out. On a thematic level, it’s kinda cool that the building itself died and was resurrected; perhaps they let it happen on purpose for the symbolism.
